Student employee Konner Greer knows the importance of bringing a curiosity-first mindset to his job in Financial Services.

“The more curiosity and initiative you bring to your internship, the more you’re going to get out of it. Understanding the ‘why’ helps you uncover things that weren’t previously known and can help you understand the bigger picture,” he said.

A Finance major who is expected to graduate in 2028, Konner has had the opportunity to flex his curious brain while working on the Service Delivery team. He’s spent time digging into transaction data from across the institution, built staffing models and helped to centralize financial operations.

“I’ve learned how to turn something complex into something that drives decision-making,” he said.

The expertise he’s gathering during his internship is also having an impact in the classroom. He has had the chance to strengthen his analytical thinking, process involvement and his attention to detail.

“Whether I’m working through a problem in class or building out a model at work, those skills translate seamlessly.”

Those transferrable skills are a huge part of why Konner encourages other students on campus to consider a student job or internship with Financial Services. “It helps provide experience in data analysis, communication, problem solving and – ultimately – helps build confidence in yourself,” he said.

“I’d like to specifically shout out both Melanie Phillips and John Nilsson for providing the opportunity to work on real, meaningful projects from day one,” said Konner. “Their willingness to involve me in high-level work and consistently push me to think beyond the task at hand has taught me a tremendous amount that I’m truly grateful for. Working with genuine people who want to help you grow and learn is a great environment to be a part of.”
