For student employee Octavio Cipolla Linardini, working with Accounts Payable has given him the opportunity to connect what he’s learning in the classroom with real-world financial operations.
While he’s had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects since first starting with Financial Services in 2023, one sticks out for the lessons he learned. “I helped develop an AI solution…that helps the indexing team process invoices faster and improve departmental workflows,” he said. “I learned a lot from this experience – especially teamwork and data analysis, particularly when studying the time it takes to process invoices.”
Octavio’s time with FS has helped him strengthen skills like data analysis, process improvement, time management and problem solving, which have all supported both his academic and professional growth.
“These skills will help me add value from day one when I enter the workforce,” he said. “I know that what I’ve learned in Financial Services will help me collaborate effectively, deliver accurate work and make data-driven decisions.”
A sense of curiosity has helped Octavio navigate his role within the division, and it’s something he encourages fellow student employees to foster.
“If I could give one piece of advice to a new FS intern [or student employee], it would be to stay curious and ask questions. The more you understand the systems, processes and the ‘why’ behind tasks, the faster you’ll learn and the more confident you’ll feel,” he said. “It also shows initiative and can help you build stronger relationships with your team.”
The relationships Octavio has fostered with his coworkers and peers are also a reason he would encourage other students to apply for a job with Financial Services.
“An internship with Financial Services offers a supportive, collaborative environment, as well as valuable hands-on experience,” he said. “It’s one of the best offices I’ve worked in – you learn business skills, build confidence and work with people who genuinely want you to grow.”
